David Kolibal, his elder sister Klara and their parents are spending a summer holiday in the Moravian karst region. While Dad teaches Klara about rock-climbing, David is free to roam around and look for adventures. The proprietor of the hotel where the Kolibals are staying is a certain Mr. Soukup who lives there with his son Matej and their dog Suplik. Matej feels perfectly at home in the local cave system. Sometimes he manages to find old coins which his father then secretly sells to rich collectors from abroad. One day Matej discovers an ancient bronze figurine. He does not reveal this to his father, but takes his find to the museum to find out its value. However, he finally runs away from the museum with his precious find. The matter is of course taken up by the media and Matej’s father thus hears all about it, as does David, who is trying to find out Matej’s secret. The important news item about this exceptional find also arouses interest in a dangerous professional receiver and robber of archeological finds named Mysak, who turns up at Soukup’s hotel with his daughter Veronica and takes a room. Mysak starts pressing Matej’s father – first through the closed coin-purchasing channels – to get the statuette from his son. He promises big money for it. But when he sees that this is leading him nowhere, he starts following Matej and soon discovers the trail to lead him to the discovery. Unfortunately David gets involved too at this point – he has decided to find his own treasure in the karst caves. Moreover, he is joined by his sister Klara and Mysak’s daughter Veronica, who has made friends with the children.
