Prague is often called the city of a hundred spires. That is not true. Prague definitely has more than a hundred towers and spires, large and small. This ancient city on the Vltava River adorns herself with spires as a vain beauty does with jewels. Particularly in the old quarters there is hardly a house without at least a small corner spire. Looking round at ground level, the city seethes with crowds, dust and the hysteria of present-day life, but from the roofs and towers Prague is majestic, calm and imposing.
