Doctor František Makeš, academy painter and restorer, invented a new restoring method on the basis of enzymes, with which destructive mildew can be removed from paintings by the old masters and which will simultaneously expose copies of the originals. František Makeš was born in Zlín, he studied painting and restoring in Prague; since 1968 has been living in Sweden, where he took a postgraduate course in chemistry at Göteborg University. He worked for over twenty years as restorer at the Swedish Royal Collections, was awarded the highest distinctions by the King of Sweden for saving works of the European cultural heritage, and became the Gratias Agit laureate for 2005.
