Violence in the home mostly takes place behind closed doors. Kicking, beatings, mental torture. And such ill-treatment is brought about by a person closest to the victim, a loved one, the person who should be a haven of safety. Accessible statistics give alarming figures about the number of abused women. And there must be many more who cannot figure in any statistics because they feel ashamed or afraid, and keep their silence. The doors hiding abuse should be opened, the suffering lips should speak.
