KAREL HUSA COMES HOME

Návraty Karla Husy

A documentary film about one of the most outstanding Czech composers who spent his life in exile - Professor Karel Husa. Karel Husa is one of the most important contemporary Czech and world composers. In 1948, after the communist revolution, he did not return to Czechoslovakia from his studies in Paris. In 1954 he started working as a composer, conductor and mostly teacher in the USA. He retained a positive relationship to his country and its culture throughout his life. As a protest against the occupation of Czechoslovakia by the Soviet army in 1968 he composed his most famous work - Music for Prague 1968. In 1991, after the fall of communism, he obtained the highest state award and a number of other honours from the democratic government of the country of his birth. Karel Husa is one of a trio of Czech composers, Dvořák-Martinu-Husa, whose work has influenced musical life not only in America.
