A bittersweet film about the difficult life of young people living in a forgotten corner of Moravia, Czech Republic. A tale of those who, while they have dreams and desires, lack the strength or circumstances to fulfill them. The protagonists of the film face poverty, unemployment, feelings of isolation, as well as longings for love, harsh humor, and the zest for living, drinking, and enjoying themselves under any circumstances. We are first introduced to Kája, a shy, young forest worker unable to communicate with others, who lives a village of dilapidated houses. He behaves somewhat awkwardly, whether at work in the company of imbibing forest workers, or at home under the thumb of his resolute grandmother and father, the villages self-appointed philosopher. But no one suspects how much he would give to win Bozhkas heart. She works at a mobile market and goes out with the local playboy, Laďa, a dissolute Michael Jackson fan. Kája doesnt seem to have a chance. He doesnt realize, however, that her relationship with Laďa is far from being as idyllic as it seems at first glance. More and more, Bozhka becomes aware of her need for the kind of true feelings that the immature Laďa is simply incapable of offering her. But above all she dreads ending up like her girlfriend Jana: Rather than stay alone as a single mother, Jana agreed to marry Staňa, a pathetic gambler who feels content to waste all the money she earns each day at her mobile market (while also taking care of the baby). Unexpectedly, the father of her child, Kájas older brother Petr, shows up in town. They dont know hes dropped out of school and he returns as a somewhat intriguing stranger. One of the heroes only possibilities to escape their daily boredom is the yearly Firemans Ball. Here, their destinies come together and the web of hidden longing and aversion is uncovered. Will everything be different in the morning?
