Screenwriter Halina Pawlovská sets this autobiographic comedy in the period between the 1968 Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia and the post-Velvet Revolution taste of freedom. One prominent plot line centers on family problems involving the ridiculous figure of the comically despotic Ukrainian father. The heroine gently and humorously pulls significant social events into the plot and analyzes them from her personal perspective.
