HUKVALDY SPRINGS

Hukvaldské studánky

A music documentary about the influence of folklore on the work of Czech composer Leoš Janáček. The film reveals his love of his native country, presenting its folk musical tradition as one source of his work. For the first time, songs recorded by Janáček are played here by amateur ensembles, such as those from the village of Brezová, or songs and dances from Kozlovice, Hukvaldy, Lubno and Kunčice. Janáček’s memories and reflections, showing him as a keen observer of the life of ordinary people, are contrasted with documentary sequences testifying to the melodic landscape still to be found in those regions.
