BORN WITHOUT CHILDBIRTH

Zrozen bez porodu (Vetřelci a lovci)

The first part of the triptych Prowlers and Protectors. Vera Podlipná is an older woman, divorced and childless. Since the break-up of her marriage she lives alone with her small dog, and although she inherited quite a little fortune, she still works as a nurse at a small hospital’s outpatient psychiatry department. One day she receives an odd notification from the local court, asking her for the address of her son Miroslav Raška, who moved away and left an unsettled electricity bill for several thousand crowns. Vera cannot believe her eyes. She never had neither son nor daughter; in fact she has never had a child. Her “case” seems to be quite clear, but – unbelievably - it is no simple matter to set things to rights. Vera has to undergo endless explanations at various administration offices, where nobody is being in the least helpful. Moreover, odd things are happening around her: her apartment is robbed; someone is following her …In this situation she is addressed by a stranger who introduces himself as “a hunter of intruders” – a mysterious person who claims to be helping people who have sudden interlopers in their lives. Vera feels so desperate under the pressure of these worrying circumstances, that she accepts his offer of help. Together they uncover the essence of her troubles. As usual, it is all about money. Josef Klíma, popular writer and reporter, wrote the story according to real events.
