HOT SUMMER IN MARIENBAD

To horké léto v Marienbadu

The fateful encounter between Johann Wolfgang Goethe, the great German poet, and young Ulrike von Levetzow in the spa of Marienbad in the early 19th century. Goethe was an aristocrat of the soul, a Minister of State, court counselor, a gentleman of the highest social standing and women played an important role in his life. He simply could not live without the emotional state of love or the search for love. He was 72 the year he met seventeen-year-old Ulrike in Marienbad, and the passionate emotions that flared up between them only prove that where love is concerned, age does not matter. Although no-one knows to this day what really happened between Goethe and Ulrike, for two hundred years this couple has been accepted as the symbol of an old man falling in love with a young girl.
