A lively fairy tale about true love between a forest nymph and a count’s errant son. In defiance towards his parents and the strict rules of court life, Robert and two pals of his escape to his crumbling forest castle, where they mean to enjoy a life of freedom and keep themselves by becoming highway robbers. But their presence comes as an unpleasant surprise to the enchanted beings with magic powers that live at the castle and in its environs. Zafra the forest nymph falls in love with Robert, she first tries to defend him but in due course wants to punish him for his pranks. She overhears Robert’s plan to kidnap the Princess as a hostage and sets out to warn her. When Robert finds out, he drives Zafra away; but when he sees how cold and cunning the real Princess is and he realizes whom he truly loves.
